STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is an intentional and interdisciplinary approach that allows students to collaborate, innovate, create, appreciate and think critically. At Aranmore Catholic Primary School, we value the benefits of problem solving and critical analysis and have scheduled STEM afternoons once a week. Students showcase their work in Term Four and enjoy the experience of articulating their STEM processes and projects with peers, staff and families.

Aranmore Catholic Primary School is committed to preparing students for the future, particularly for careers in fast-growing sectors such as biotechnology, environmental science and information technology.

1:1 iPads

Aranmore Catholic Primary School has been operating a 1:1 iPad Program in Years Four – Six since 2020. The program was implemented following research into best pedagogical practices. Year Four students are supplied with a new iPad at the beginning of the year, managed by the school with all necessary applications. The students take their iPad home each night and are responsible for charging it and bringing it to school each day. Within our junior classes, a bank of iPads is provided by the school with a ratio of one iPad per two students. These are often shared between classes to allow 1:1 access when required.

Incorporating digital technology throughout the entire curriculum is a priority at Aranmore Catholic Primary School as it improves access to educational resources, develops digital literacy skills and enhances collaboration and communication. Furthermore, the effective use of iPads personalises learning experiences, improves productivity and increases engagement in the learning process. Students are taught how to remain safe online, with both teachers and external providers promoting responsible digital citizenship.
